Android 17 for Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus : Release and Features
Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus are flagship devices from Samsung launched with pre-loaded Android 15 in January 2025. Both the flagships got updated to Android 16 or One UI 8 in September 2025. The next big update for the S25 series is Android 17 or One UI 9.
Google released the first beta of Android 17 in February 2026 with many visual refinements and cool features. Subsequently, the Search giant released 2nd, 3rd and 4th betas with some new features, and the last or fifth beta is yet to be released. According to the timeline given, the stable build of Android 17 most probably will be available by end of June.
Samsung started the One UI 9 Beta program recently for the Galaxy S26 series in limited regions. The South korean tech giant is expanding the program to other devices and regions. The One UI 9 beta contains many useful AI features as per the beta users and reviewers.
Android 17 or One UI 9 Exclusive Features :
Google revamped the user interface in Android 17 with the introduction of Material 3 expressive design, but Samsung may overlay its custom One UI interface. So Galaxy S25 users may experience less visual changes compared to One UI 8.5 after update to One UI 9. However, Samsung integrated modified quick settings panel in which users can modify the media player, control toggles, brightness slider and their sizes too.
Live updates is another appealing feature in Android 17. After updating to One UI 9, the users can track the delivery straight from the notification on lockscreen or home screen without having to open app.
The update also contains revamped Samsung notes app which includes many pen styles and new tools. Samsung also updated the Contacts app in the One UI 9 beta to improve its integration with other apps.
Android 17 Release Date for Samsung S25
Google is gearing up to release its final beta in early June 2026 and the stable build can come out by the end of June 2026 for the Pixel devices. Since Samsung already started the beta program of One UI 9, the S25 series users may receive the first beta in June 2026. The final rollout of Android 17 might hit the S25 and S25 Plus owners in August or September 2026 in some regions.
However, in some regions S25 users may have to wait till end of October 2026 to taste One UI 9 update.

Update on 9/6/2026 :
Samsung rolled out the Beta 2 update for S26 series for the users who registered for Beta testing and installed Beta 1 already. The size of the update is around 1.6GB and also includes June Security patch. Samsung fixed a quite number bugs in the second beta and added a handful of new features. According to the bug fix list shown in the update notification, Watch interruption popup, status bar display error, delay while deleting messages in bulk, lock screen clock issue, game booster issue have been fixed.
However, the users after installing Beta 2 pointed that caller ID is not working properly, also Camera launches slowly from Whatsapp and even gives error sometimes. Samsung may address these issues in Beta 3 release which most probably happen by the end of June, 2026.
The beta contains some interesting new features like vertical split view option in Camera and redesigned widgets. Samsung S25 users also may receive the Beta 2 update very soon.
